Hey there! Excited you want to learn more about how we transformed abandoned cutover land into something beautiful and functional.

We have a few secret weapons:

The first is the forestry mulcher. We paid a local guy to mulch our trees and parts of our young forest for us. There are so many benefits to using this type of machine vs. digging the trees out. But the main ones are:

  1. It keeps the material on the land and the mulch is fantastic for the soil.

      2) Secondly, you donโ€™t have to discard of the trees after they are dug up($$$)

3) It is way less expensive and much faster than having an excavator dig the trees out.

Our other secret weapon is rotational grazing ruminant animals. By utilizing solar energizers and mobile fencing, we are able to move these animals all around the farm. This does several things:

  1. Spreads the manure all over the property which builds and fertilizes the soil
  2. Since sheep prefer weeds, they are an excellent animal to get if your pastures donโ€™t have lush grasses just yet. The sheep eat the weeds which pushes them back and allows the native grasses to start pushing through.
  3. Goats are browsers, so they eat any stump growth, young trees and other brambly and unwanted trees, shrubs and weeds.
  4. The goats and sheep compliment each other beautifully since they prefer different things.

You can see more about the fencing we use and how we move the sheep and goats around our property in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8U1U3wTB3Y&t=68s
